In July 2022, Embodying Reconciliation received UNESCO accreditation to advise the Intergovernmental Committee on Intangible Cultural Heritage, recognizing its work in safeguarding heritage, promoting reconciliation, and building peace.
UNESCO invites Embodying Reconciliation to facilitate a workshop at the Civil-Military Meeting on the Protection of Cultural Property, which will be held from March 26 to 28, 2025 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This event aims to strengthen collaboration among the armed forces of 11 Latin American countries and heritage professionals, within the framework of the 1954 Hague Convention and its Protocols.
Created in 2020, the Working Group for a More Balanced Geographically Representation of Accredited NGOs develops strategies to reduce the imbalance in their representation within the NGO Forum of the 2003 UNESCO Convention. Its work includes training materials and reflection on the roles of NGOs according to their regional context.
Embodying Reconciliation participated in the Kaustinen 2023 ICH Seminar: Building Peace with Intangible Cultural Heritage: Preparedness, Response, and Recovery, where we shared how intangible cultural heritage and body-centered methodologies can support peacebuilding in emergency contexts.
Representing Embodying Reconciliation, participation in the symposium 'Participatory Approaches to Living Heritage: Perspectives of NGOs' during the 19th session of the 2003 UNESCO Convention in Paraguay (2024), presenting collaborative strategies for safeguarding living heritage and the role of NGOs in community participation and cultural sustainability.
Presentation of the project 'Living Pictures: A Cultural Journey for Peace' and delivery of the report from the Working Group on the Imbalanced Representation of NGOs. The discussion addressed challenges and opportunities for equitable NGO participation in safeguarding cultural heritage, highlighting 'Cuadros Vivos' as a model to promote peace and intercultural understanding through heritage practices.
Embodying Reconciliation presented its work as a newly accredited NGO in Rabat, highlighting the use of bodily and cultural heritage, such as dance, for peacebuilding and intercultural dialogue, and underscoring the importance of community initiatives in preserving Intangible Cultural Heritage.
